About Brooklyn

I’m Carina and I’m a journalist specialising in telling amazing true-life stories

Do you have an amazing true-life story which you’d like to see published?

Then please get in touch!

I have over 15 years’ experience working as a journalist, specialising in real-life stories and feature writing. Most recently, I was a Features Editor at Bauer Media, the UK’s biggest magazine publisher. Now freelance, my work has appeared in Take a Break, Chat, Best, Woman’s Own and Pick Me Up…and many more!

Over the years, I’ve written about all kinds of things—everything from people who’ve survived shark attacks to heart-warming stories of friendship and love.

You may be wondering what makes a story. Just some of the subjects I’ve covered include…

Love: age gap relationships, fated love or romances with a surprising twist!

Heartwarming stories: long-lost friends or family that have been reunited, people with an unusual hobby, business or skill or those doing something special to fundraise for charity.

Health: weight loss/body positive stories, miracle babies, unusual medical conditions or brushes with death.

Paranormal: Tales of haunted houses, amazing psychic readings, weird coincidences, manifesting and more!

Pets: Weird and wonderful pets, animals which have done something amazing such as saving someone’s life…

And lots, lots more!

How I can help

If you think you’ve got a story to tell, please get in touch using the web form to tell me a brief outline. From there, we’ll have a chat over the phone so that I can find out more and put together a summary before approaching publications who I think will be a best fit for your story. Once a story is accepted by a magazine, I’ll then have another chat to you over the phone to get the rest of the details so that I can write up the full piece.

Will I be paid?

Many people tell a story because they want to raise awareness of a particular cause close to their heart or promote a business. In those cases, I’ll ask the magazine to print a website link or name check. Other times, a fee can be offered in which case I’ll negotiate the best price for you.

Will I hear my story before publication?

In many cases, I can read the story I’ve written over the phone to you before sending it to the editor to check you’re happy with it.

Anything else I should know?

You’ll usually need to be named and pictured although for particularly sensitive stories it’s sometimes possible for the case study to remain anonymous. Most magazines do not send out a photographer so you’ll usually need to send me photos which I can use alongside your story. This can be done by email, Whatsapp or Facebook messenger…easy!
